1. Real Antique Wood
The folks at Real Antique Wood have a simple mission: collect all the old wood possible from barns or other structures before it is taken to the landfill or left to rot.
And, that means you’ll find a large supply of unique antique and reclaimed wood to make your next projects from. Are they a traditional supplier of hardwood lumber in New Jersey? Not really. But it’s always worth a shot at using reclaimed wood if your project design supports it.

When a business like Fox Lumber has been in business for over a 100 years you know they are doing something right. And, with woodworkers, that usually means good prices and service. Wood Buying References
Featured New Jersey Wood
The Northern Red Oak is both the state tree of New Jersey and one of my picks for hardwood lumber in New Jersey.
While red oak is an easy wood to turn into both cabinets and furniture, if you haven’t worked with this hardwood before just remember:
- Red oak tends to splinter during crosscuts
- Kiln drying is a must as the grain will absorb moisture readily
- And oak will stain readily and almost always without blotching
